With its colourful facades and unique shops, this street showcases Edinburgh’s multi-level 19th-century architecture. Widely believed to be the real-life inspiration for J.K. Rowling's Diagon Alley, it connects the Grassmarket to George IV Bridge.

Prestonfield House
A chance to experience a house (now hotel) steeped in centuries of Scottish history. Prestonfield House stands on land once granted to the son of a king, forging an enduring royal connection still present to this day. Rebuilt in 1687 by Sir William Bruce, architect to the king, it soon enjoyed a distinguished position at the epicentre of Scotland’s political, social, business and artistic life. The hotel sits in front of a backdrop of Arthur's Seat and has a large roundhouse, previously used for keeping horses. The stables were repurposed and now host events, with peacocks and highland castle roaming freely in the grounds.
Craigmillar Castle
Craigmillar Castle, a ruined 14th-century fortress in Edinburgh, is most famously known as the place where Scottish nobles signed the "Craigmillar Bond" in 1566. This historic pact plotted the murder of Lord Darnley, the second husband of Mary, Queen of Scots who used the castle it as a royal sanctuary.
